Cannero may be small, but it’s home to picturesque roads, small chapels, and historic buildings.
Our very own hotel used to be a monastery. Lintels carved with medieval crosses, frescoes from bygone eras, and a small ethnographic and brush-making museum—featuring tools and implements of daily life from the late 19th century to the 1950s—offer a great reason for a pleasant walk through the streets of Cannero Riviera, a village that also boasts peaceful pedestrian areas.
On Fridays, enjoy Cannero’s local market between 8:00 and 12:30.

The museums of Isola Bella collect the artistic heritage of the Borromeo family, while at Museo del Paesaggio, you can learn about Lake Maggiore’s art scene. If you enjoy visiting castles and monasteries, Rocca di Angera and Santa Caterina del Sasso, both around 1.5 hours away from the hotel, are not to be missed.
A visit to the “Castelli di Cannero” is also highly recommended; these are the remains of medieval fortresses owned by the Borromeo family, just like the more famous Borromean Islands. Recently renovated, they now house a museum open to the public.
The hotel reception staff can assist with purchasing tickets for entry and for the boat trip to the Castelli di Cannero operated by Terre Borromeo.
Verbania and Stresa are home to great botanical gardens such as Villa Taranto, Isola Madre, and Villa Pallavicino Zoo Park. Ideal for slow afternoons, peaceful walks, and for guests who enjoy nature, photography, and landscaped gardens.
Also worth a visit are the Isole di Brissago, a botanical garden in Switzerland easily reached by boat through the hotel’s sailing service.
On special occasions, such as the Cannero Riviera Citrus Fruit Festival or the Camellia Exhibition, you’ll be able to visit small private gardens around Lake Maggiore.
Many of these gardens are only accessible by water, and our hotel is happy to arrange a private boat, complete with skipper, so you can reach them in comfort and style, arriving exactly when the gardens are at their most beautiful.
